The iPRES 2025 Logo
The tūī, one of New Zealand’s most unique and beloved native birds, serves as our inspiration behind the iPRES 2025 conference logo. Now thriving in Wellington, the tūī is known for its shimmering teal feathers and distinctive white throat tuft. What is truly unique about the tūī is its voice. With two voice boxes, this remarkable bird can produce a symphony of sounds, from melodic notes to clicks, and even mimic urban noise and human speech.
Beyond its beauty, the tūī plays a vital role in New Zealand’s biodiversity and ecosystem, pollinating native plants and helping to sustain the natural environment. However, the tūī’s journey has been challenging, facing threats from predators and habitat loss. Yet, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Wellington community, including pest control and habitat restoration, tūī numbers have increased eightfold—a true conservation success story. The story of the tūī is also a powerful metaphor for digital preservation. Just as we create the conditions for the tūī’s survival, we act as caretakers of our digital collections, ensuring their preservation for future generations. The iPRES 2025 logo, featuring two tūī circling each other, symbolises our ongoing dialogue, effort, education and the infinite preservation of our digital heritage. As we gather for iPRES 2025, let’s aspire to think differently, drawing inspiration from the natural world and ancient knowledge. Together, we can nurture and safeguard our digital legacy, much like the flourishing tūī, for years to come. |
